IMPORTANT HSFI GRADING POLICY INFORMATION
#1 – GRADE / TRANSCRIPT UPDATE CHANGES
After meeting with representatives from the NYC Department of Education before break, moving forward there will be a number of changes to procedures for grade changes and transcript updates.  This includes the following:
● GRADE CHANGES: Teachers may change their marking period grades directly in STARS Classroom up to 3 weeks after the close of the marking period
● TRANSCRIPT UPDATES:
(1) Supporting documentation, namely a copy of your gradebook, will be required to change an existing grade.  The grade you want to submit for a student must be in alignment with the course’s grading policy.
(2) All Transcript Update forms must be picked up directly from the Program office (Room 121) – your department supervisor will share with you a copy of the new form
(3) All Transcript Updates must be approved and signed by the Principal and hand delivered back to Room 121

#2 – GRADE RANGES / CUMULATIVE GRADING
Below are the suggested ranges that you should be using for your grades effective immediately:

You must go into your Jupiter Grades’ account and set the grade scales equivalent to these ranges – you must do it individually as we cannot set the grade scales for the entire school.
One important point about your grades is that they are CUMULATIVE which means:
Each report card grade reflects ALL the work done up to that date. Therefore:
The first marking period grade includes all the work done from the first day of the semester.
The second marking period grade includes all the work done for BOTH the first and second marking periods.
The third and final marking period grade includes all the work of the FIRST, SECOND and THIRD marking periods – all the work done since the first day of the semester.

Each grade includes ALL the work done from the very first day of the semester.

Moving forward, our Aca/CTE committee believes that we should move to numeric grades for the 2016-17 school year and beyond with a failing grade of 55 / a minimum passing grade of 65 / and the ability to give numeric grade in single increments from 65 – 100 (if your grade is a 77, a 77 goes on the report card and transcript).

Wednesday January 6
crescent (n) 1 A crescent is a thin, curved shape that’s thicker in the middle and tapers to thin points at each end. Crescent was first used to describe the shape of the waxing, or seemingly growing moon. (adj.) The word crescent is applied to anything of similar shape such as crescent rolls or crescent wrenches.
Thursday January 7
accretion (n) accumulation. An increase by natural growth or addition. “History is made in two ways: by dramatic occurrences such as the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989; and by the accretion of small changes over long periods which are harder to notice but often more significant than the isolated, surprising events.”
Friday January 8
crescendo (n) A musical instruction to gradually increase the volume: "The musicians were following the directions of the conductor to begin the crescendo of the musical performance.”
