CALL TO ACTION
● THIS THURSDAY IS A BIG DAY AT HSFI – NYC / NY STATE REVIEW OF CTE
PROGRAMS FOR RECERTIFICATION
This Thursday there will be an
External Review of HSFI’s Fashion Marketing and Fashion Design programs by the
NYC DOE and NY State Education Department.
The entire HSFI community needs to understand the importance of this
certification to the school – the results impact our budget and our ability to
screen students who are interested in the school. The reviewers will speak to our Work-Based
Learning Coordinators, CTE instructors, the College Counselor and guidance
staff, and our Industry and Post-Secondary Partners. They will also meet
with a panel of 6-8 students, visit CTE classes and tour the facilities.
● 2 WEEKS UNTIL REGENTS EXAMS
Not much time until the term and
school year ends. The weather is also
getting nicer (finally) which does help our students’ focus. Encourage students to finish up strong with
graduation and summer school at stake!
You must communicate with the students themselves, parents, counselors
and supervisors if students are at-risk of not passing classes and Regents. Encourage
your students to attend Regents review after school and on the weekends. These are high-stakes exams that are crucial
to our students’ moving forward in their academic careers.
● MAINTAINING SCHOOL TONE
As we enter the home stretch of
the school year, it is critical that we need to be UNIFIED as a staff in enforcing our school rules to maintain
our school tone. Please be consistent
and model the correct behaviors our students need in order to SOARR to college
and career readiness.
NO
FOOD IN CLASSROOMS
– students can only eat in the student cafeteria & the student lounge - no
food should in classrooms before, during or after school – no staff or students
should be eating in any computer lab
DRESS
CODE – every
week there are zero dress code infractions which is certainly not reality–
nobody is reporting these infractions via Jupiter Grades – please make these
referrals, so we can follow up with these students and help set the proper tone
and attire here at HSFI
PROPER
USE OF HALL / HEALTH CENTER PASSES
– students can only leave the classroom with a pass / students going to the
Falcon Health Center must use that specific pass
ELECTRONIC
EQUIPMENT POLICY
- electronic equipment are only allowed to be used in classrooms for instructional
purposes – students must not be allowed to take out their phones during class and
do not let students charge this equipment in your classrooms
ELEVATORS – students are not allowed on
staff elevators unless they have their own elevator card / ask students to show
their elevator passes when they are in those elevators
OPERATIONAL
NEED TO KNOW
● Your Voice Needed to Improve Our
Technology Support
Please assist us by filling out this quick survey
regarding technology assistance – you will be rating the
overall computer service assistance from (1) Needs Major Improvement; to (2) Fair;
(3) Good, but Needs Some Adjustments; (4) Excellent.
● Common Core Testing on Wednesday, June 1
Only students taking the CC
Trigonometry & Integrated Algebra Regents attend class this Wednesday, June
1. Follow the special testing schedule distributed
to you. There will be no regular classes
on this date.
● Accommodations for Students Observing
Ramadan
Ramadan starts
Tuesday, June 7th and lasts for a month, though the only days that really
affect these students are June 7 (Tuesday), June 8 (Wednesday), June 9 (Friday)
and June 12 (Monday). Brought up by Ms. Bohner, it would be great to
have a place for those students observing Ramadan to have a place to go during
lunch so that they don't have to be in the cafeteria with all the food around
when they are trying to fast. These
students can go to the student lounge 5th and 6th / they can go to Room
646 during 4th and 7th. Thank
you Ms. Bohner and Ms. Thomas!
● New Phone Extensions
This past week all staff received
an updated version of our staff directory based off our room changes – here are

● Attending Graduation for Staff at
Distributed Scoring Sites
Please let your
supervisor and Assistant Principal R. Bernstein know if you want to attend graduation
AND you are assigned to a distributed grading site. Once you get to the distributed grading site,
identify the site supervisor that I need to contact in order to process this
request – one member of the respective department at that distributed grading
should email me and your supervisor with that name and contact information.
● Submission of Per Session Time Sheets /Cards
Please do not staple
time cards over the area where you have entered your timekeeping
information on the Time Reports. It would be appreciated if time cards
were staples to the opposite front side of the Time Report. We need
to see the daily entries in order to enter your time. Thank you for
your help

VOTING ON SCHOOL SCHEDULE & COMPENSATORY TIME POSITIONS
The consultative committee and I met this past
Friday and the vote on next year’s school schedule and compensatory time
positions will take place next Thursday, June 2. The vote will be
administered by Ms. Perez, the chapter leader, and you will have the
opportunity to vote in the morning upon your arrival to school.
Vote #1
- School Schedule
This vote will be about whether or not to keep
the school schedule as it is currently configured with our First Monday of the
month schedule. A vote to approve the school schedule would keep it as
is. I support this schedule as it has served HSFI well and will provide
continuity for us.
Vote #2
- Compensatory Time Positions
Below is the list and descriptions of the
compensatory time positions that the committee and I agreed upon. The
large majorities of the positions have been approved in previous school years
and are critical to the school’s smooth operation. There are two new
positions:
(1) First, is the creation of additional Deans
position beyond the 4 that are already in existence. The plan is for each
guidance counselor to work with a Dean to develop positive relationships with
their caseloads and support students who are having difficulties.
(2) The second position is SING Coordinator –
the SING production was amazing and connected a whole group of students to the
school and performing arts.
I support the approval of this entire
list. The hope is that we will have the budget to support as many of
these positions as possible. The reality is that we are never able to
fund all these positions, but approval gives us the option of doing so.

COOL THINGS GOING ON AT HSFI
● 5 HSFI Awarded Executive Internship at
Barney’s
Our
amazing partnership has Barneys continues as 5 of our students have been chosen
for a 2 week Executive Internship with Barneys from June 20 to July 1. These students will be meeting and working
with all the top executives at Barneys – it is an amazing opportunity!
The students we chose are Samantha Berger, Ashley Mercedes Javier, Aria
Faziha Khandaker, Sitan Conde and Fatha Alma.
In addition to this internship, they are giving each student a $500 stipend
● National Honor Society Induction Ceremony
SAVE THE DATE: The NHS Induction Ceremony and Senior Cord
Ceremony will be on Friday, June 10, 2016 in the school auditorium.
● School Announcements Video Production
In our efforts to make the
morning announcements more entertaining, we will be filming and recording our
announcements as a new show that will be broadcast in place of the morning
announcements.
We are looking for staff that
would like to join Christina Vega and co-advise the club that will be producing
the show. If you have any experience with film and editing or journalism,
that is great, although no experience is necessary!
This is will be a fun endeavor
that will give the school a new platform to highlight school events, clubs, and
important information. Please consider getting involved! You can email
Christina at cgerasimovich@hsfi.us
to get involved. Thank you!
● HSFI’s Juniors Rocking the Runway @ New York Public Library’s
Anti-Prom
The school’s involvement in the
NYPL’s Anti-Prom is long standing. The
theme this year is the Secret Garden.
The Anti-Prom will take place on Friday, June 17th from 6:30
pm – 9:00 at the NYPL’s main branch at 5th Avenue and 42nd
Street. All teenagers are invited to
this summer party featuring HSFI’s designers and models: costumes encouraged
and student ID required. There will be
music, dancing, gaming and food. See Ms.
Herbert, Ms. Cisse or Ms. Dahill for more information.
