CALL TO ACTION
● MARKING PERIOD 2 BEGINS
With marking period one completed
and students receiving their report cards on Tuesday, explain the concept of
cumulative grading to your students.
Explain how students still have time to pull up their grades, if needed.
● FASHION DOLLARS DISTRIBUTION ALIGNED TO HSFI PROBLEM OF PRACTICE
Fashion Dollars have never been
more valuable, use Fashion Dollars the right way including:
(1) Aligning the distribution of
Fashion Dollars to the school’s problem of practice involving rigorous student
tasks. Reward students with Fashion
Dollars for trying challenging activities during a lesson. We need to positively reinforce rigor and
move away from just reinforcing compliance and basic class participation.
(2) Verbalize out loud for the
entire class why a student is receiving Fashion Dollars. You are not getting the full impact of this
reward system if the student does not hear why they are receiving Fashion
Dollars. You are not getting the full
impact of this reward system if the entire class does not hear why a specific
student received Fashion Dollars. This
will result in all students clearly understanding why they are being
distributed and will motivate students to produce similar behaviors.
● HSFI SCHOOL SPIRIT
This Thursday, November 3 after 9th
period, we are having a Pep Rally to support and recognize the sports teams for
fall and winter. This is followed by a Staff vs. Students Basketball or
Volleyball game. It would be great to have staff members attend to celebrate
our student-athletes and support our staff team.
HSFI
HOLIDAY PARTY
I hope you can join us for a
Holiday Party to celebrate the HSFI Community – our jobs are super stressful
and this would be a great opportunity to relax.
The party will take place at ‘Burger and Lobster’ at 39 West 19th
Street on Thursday, December 15 from 4:30 – 6:30. Connect with Ms. Ianniello in Room 819 by
November 18 if you are interested in going.
Her extension is 8191 / Email: AIanniello@schools.nyc.gov
OPERATIONAL
NEED TO KNOW
● CHECK YOUR DOE & HSFI EMAILS EVERYDAY
● DO NOT PLACED CLUB / ACTIVITY FLYERS AROUND
THE BUILDING
Flyers for clubs and activities
will be placed on the ‘Student Activities Bulletin Boards’ on every floor. Do not post these flyers yourself (or by your
students). Get them to Student
Government via Mr. Rau or Ms. San Jorge and they will posted in these
locations. In addition to these bulletin
boards, we have the whiteboards in the lobby and TV screens to market these
activities.
● COPY CENTER ISSUES BEING ADDRESSED
We are fully aware of the
problems with the copiers and the need to have the Copy Center running smoothly
– we just completed a purchase order for a whole set of machines to make sure everything
runs smoothly. Thank you for your
patience.
● TEACHER’S CHOICE
Funds will be included with the 11/30/16
paycheck. For program guidelines, forms, and FAQs, see the Teacher's
Choice website or contact the Payroll Office. Teachers will be allocated
$148.00 this year for student/classroom related purchases. Save your
receipts. Purchases made between August 1, 2016 - January 15, 2017 are
eligible.
As in the past, staff may also
contribute all or a portion of their funds to the Copy Center in the form of a
personal check or money order payable to the HS of Fashion Industries. This will go towards purchase of paper and
copy center supplies. The donation
amount should be entered on the Accountability Form.
● TESTING ANNOUNCEMENTS
#1 – Testing Administration
Handbook
I know testing
is not coming up until the end of January, but all staff are required to go
over the NYC DOE Testing Administration Handbook – it is attached to the Weekly
Bulletin email.
#2 - January
2017 Regents Per-Session Opportunities for School Staff:
Note that Algebra I (CC), Algebra II
(CC), Algebra 2/Trig, Chemistry, Earth Science, English Language Arts (CC),
Geometry (CC), Global History, Living Environment, Physics, and US History will
be scored partially or fully through per-session opportunities that will be
Centrally funded and managed. Teachers and supervisors may apply for per-session positions at Regents scoring sites
beginning September 30, and may continue to do so up until by November
1.
● LINE OF DUTY INJURIES
Hopefully this never happens, but if you
get hurt at school, you are required to let the school administration know
within 24 hours. We will help you with
whatever forms that need to be filled out, so you are protected for medical
care.

FOR THE WEEK – COLLEGE TERMS
Monday, October 31
Bully
Pulpit: (n) When
the term “bully” first came into use, it was slang for “excellent” or “first
rate.” President Teddy Roosevelt
coined the term, calling the White House a “bully” pulpit or an excellent
platform for advocating plans and ideas.
Tuesday, November 1
Rescind: (v) to take away, take back, and
officially cancel. The players were happy that the league had changed course
and rescinded the fines. The senator threatened to rescind her endorsement of
the candidate unless an official apology was made for the deeply offensive
comments.
Wednesday, November 2
Delegate: (n) a person appointed or
elected to represent others. In the 2016
presidential conventions, More than 4,000 Democratic delegates and nearly 2,500
Republican delegates were elected by different means and came from all 50
states and the territories. The delegates’ chief responsibilities include
voting for the nominees for president and vice president.
Thursday, November 3
Referendum: (n) a public vote on a
particular issue. Usually, a referendum is a yes or no question. In July 2016,
British voters decided to exit the European Union (Brexit) in a referendum seen
as motivated by fears over immigration and a perception that the European Union
(EU) was making too many decisions for its member nations.
Friday, November 4
Recrimination: (n) mutual accusations: an angry statement in which you accuse or
criticize a person who has accused or criticized you. Boos filled the hall, followed by subsequent
recriminations and insults thrown by both political camps.
