CALL TO ACTION

Every week, I will share with you a ‘Call To Action’ around our school goals that will help drive our work for that week.

HSFI ‘CARED FOR’ GOAL – RELATIONSHIPS & REALNESS

LOOK OUT FOR TRAUMA IN OUR STUDENTS AS THE TERM WINDS DOWN

While many of our students have thrived in the return to school, we know there are many students who are struggling.  Students are worried about failing classes, going to summer school and taking standardized Regents tests for the first time in years.  Please look for changes in your students and let one of our mental health professionals know if you see a child in distress.

HSFI ‘CHALLENGED’ GOAL – RIGOR & RELEVANCE

TWO WEEKS LEFT IN THE THIRD & FINAL MARKING PERIOD OF THE SPRING TERM CONTINUES

We have two weeks left in the third and final marking period of the Spring term continues - please make sure students know where they stand in their classes and know what is required for them to receive the grades that they would like to receive.  This marking period is especially critical for at-risk students because summer school and promotion decisions are based on these grades.

NEW ITEMS:

SUMMER 2022 BRIDGE PROGRAM FOR INCOMING STUDENTS - STAFF INTEREST FORM

This July, we are planning on running our Summer Bridge Program for all new and incoming HSFI students.  The Summer Bridge Program is a wonderful opportunity for our current HSFI staff and students to welcome our new students and families into the building and to get them acclimated to HSFI prior to the first day of school.  We have planned many fun activities, scavenger hunts and tours around the building.  Students will receive lots of important information and find out all they need to know about our school, while making new friends in the process.  We can only pull this event off if we have your help.  We are looking for staff members of all titles who may be interested in being a part of our summer bridge program.  Staff members can select which days they are interested/available to work.  The Summer Bridge will run on JULY 13,14, 15 & 20,21,22.  We will run 2 sessions each day from 9-11am, and from 12-2pm  (Staff will be paid 6 hours from 8:30am-2:30pm)

If you are interested in being a part of our Summer Bridge Program please fill out the following form: https://forms.gle/dSduVNpvxwWckhfQ7

PARTNERSHIP WITH CHILDREN STAFF APPRECIATION BREAKFAST

One of amazing community partners, Partnership With Children - wants to thank the HSFI staff for all of your support this year! Come grab some bagels, coffee, and other assorted pastries as a thank you on June 10 in Room 821 from 8:30 AM – 9:50 AM.  Thank you PWC!

RESTORATIVE PRACTICES TRAINING CONTINUES

This Thursday, June 2, we will continue our efforts to shift our school culture toward Restorative Practices where our students will collaborate with adults in redesigning our school's approach to discipline and consequences with an all day Restorative Practices training.  A group of students and staff will be part of this professional development series - this Tuesday’s session is the second of four scheduled sessions.  This group of students will hopefully be our future Peer Mediators / Conflict Resolution Specialists.  Our counselors, social workers, some of our supervisors and I will be doing the training with them.  We are extending the student – staff partnership that we have been developing on the HSFI Advisory Committee.

Below are the list of future dates / times of these training sessions along with the list of students.  They are excused from class, but obviously responsible for all missed work.
