PBIS CALL TO ACTION
□ In light of current events plus the holiday season approaching, this can be a difficult time for our students. Please be sensitive towards their needs and notify guidance counselors, deans and other support staff of any concerns you may have.

□ After Parent-Teacher Conferences you might have a better understanding of the background behind some students’ issues / the families you did not get to see and you needed to see, please reach out to those parents as we finish up the second marking period and head down the stretch of the Fall term

□ Important Fashion Dollar announcements to STOP TOKEN HOARDING
(1) USE FD OR LOSE THEM - Fashion Dollars will not carry over from year to year and MUST be spent during this school year
(2) We will soon be installing Interest Rates on Fashion Dollar accounts in the hopes of getting students to deposit them

OPERATIONAL NEED TO KNOW
Lunch Applications
We are down to about 100 students with missing lunch applications - you have your lists of students for all your classes – please follow up with them every day – students’ lunch status and the financial standing of HSFI is at stake

Printer Cartridges to Support the Glenn Sears Scholarship Fund
Mr. Rappa is collecting used printer cartridges in Room 244 and redeeming them for money – we will not only be keeping them out of landfills, but the money will be donated to the Glenn Sears Scholarship Fund giving a deserving student(s) a parting gift from HSFI

COOL THINGS THIS WEEK
Barney’s Simon Doonan Principal for a day
This Thursday, HSFI welcomes Barneys New York Creative Ambassador Simon Doonan to be Principal for a Day!  Mr. Doonan first rose to fame designing the famous display windows at the Barneys clothing boutique in New York, and has gone on to write many critically acclaimed books about his life in fashion including “Confessions of a Window Dresser

Winter Vision Program
With a generous donation of top-designer glasses frames from the Council for Fashion Designers of America through the HSFI Advisory Board, the Falcon Health Center and Manhattan Eyeworks will partner to bring exams and glasses to HSFI students.  Beginning this week, HSFI and the Falcon Health Center will publicize the project to students and parents.  Students can then complete a quick visit to check insurance, have a vision screening, and to pick frames.  Frames will be delivered to Manhattan Eyeworks for the open hours, labeled with students name and information. Students who miss the open hours can still obtain frames to have completed at Manhattan Eyeworks by appointment.

Tuesday December 1
turbine (n.) A machine for producing continuous power in which a wheel or rotor – typically fitted with blades – is made to revolve by a fast-moving flow of water, steam, gas, air, or other fluids. For many, the giant, spinning wind turbine has become a global image of clean power.

Thursday December 3

Friday December 4
turmoil (n)  refers to confusion, chaos, violent disturbance. “J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye   is the critically acclaimed novel of teenage turmoil as told in the 17-year-old voice of Holden Caulfield,  expelled from prep school and on his own in Manhattan.”  Turmoil in Turkey makes its entry into the European Union (EU) more elusive or difficult to achieve than ever.

2.Gaming at HSFI: International Gaming Day was Saturday 11/21/15
It was so much fun developing problem solving skill, team building skills and sharing gaming knowledge.  Students brought many games as they played xbox, PlayStation and Wii. "Game On" for 20 HSFI students, 6 siblings and two parents: Jonathan Melendez and Tanya Mcleod. Thank you for your support.

Also,we had Toli, a high school professional gamer who is invited to gaming tournaments and Musa, who is a gamer and professional  film editor; our gaming experts were invited for a lunch time lecture. They had a Gaming Trivia and gave students prizes for questions like, What was the first gaming system? "From the Kingdom Hearts, who was Sora's childhood friends?" Thank you Mr. Blank for supporting HSFI's first International Gaming Event and the pizza, Many participants suggested that HSFI should have a Family Gaming Night!!!

Thanks you to Thomas Knowlton, Librarian and "Gaming Guru" as he and I presented on Election Day to NYC Librarians a program on Gaming Literacy at the Mets Stadium. We are planning a gaming presentation for Chancellors Day.

3. Book and Magazine Ordering for the library:
Please let me know if you have a book or magazine request for HSFI library. It is wonderful to hear so many students coming in to get books that their teachers recommended. I order from a big vendor so the selection can be limiting. I instruct many students on how to get their books from the public libraries through MyLibraryNYC.org. I am trying to get current statistics as the first year that this was rolled out HSFI was #1 circulating school in the program.

Please let me know if you need assistance on MyLibraryNYC.org to order books sets.  x5013
