CALL TO ACTION
● ENCOURAGE HSFI STUDENTS TO CHECK HSFI EMAILS
Supporting our college readiness theme,
remind your students that they should be checking their HSFI email every
day. Students should be getting in the
habit of checking their HSFI every day because they will lose out on many
opportunities if they don’t do so.
● GUIDANCE COUNSELOR – DEAN TEAMS
We are excited about our Guidance
Counselor – Dean partnerships who will have the same caseloads of students. The teams will be meeting every week to
connect with one another. You will get a
response from the teams when you submit a referral, but please be patience
about getting this response.
● KNOW STUDENTS’ GUIDANCE COUNSELOR TO SUBMIT A REFERRAL
Submitting the wrong counselor on
a referral will delay assistance to the student. We have noticed that some staff are
identifying the wrong counselor. We cannot
help students out, if we do not know if they are having problems – fill out
referrals as necessary including academic ones which will refer to the National
Honor Society tutoring. We hope to begin
this service by the beginning of October.
● UPDATE JUPITER CLASS LISTS
Program changes and equalization
of classes are complete. Make sure your
class lists match with your class lists on Jupiter.
INSTRUCTIONAL
REMINDERS
▪ All students should have their white permanent program
cards. First Marking Period ends October 21st.
▪ A team from The Writing Revolution will be visiting
9th and 10th grade academic classrooms on Thursday 9/29 from 2 - 5 periods.
They'll give us feedback on our launch of the program
▪ Lab begins this week for all Regents Science Classes
▪ IEP meetings are in progress; please be sure to submit
teacher reports when asked to do so and participate in IEP meetings when
invited. You're participation and insight is crucial in creating a quality IEP!
OPERATIONAL

● ONLINE CUSTODIAL REQUEST FORM
We are pleased to announce a new addition
to our staff web page. Requests for custodial assistance will be
processed through a new Google form effective September 26, 2016. Staff

● FIRST EVACUATION DRILL ON TUESDAY,
SEPTEMBER 27
This a notification that we plan to have
an Evacuation Drill on September 27th at 9:15AM. During this timed
exercise, everyone is expected to leave the building. Additionally, below
you will find reminders and requirements that have been developed to insure a
safe and orderly evacuation:
▪ No individual may use the elevators
during a fire or drill of any kind. Limited mobility individuals
should be directed to the room ending in 29, on the floor that they are currently
on. First responders and floor wardens know to report to these locations and
provide assistance if necessary.
▪ Teachers should escort students to
the nearest stairwell on either side of the floor they are assigned. Staff
members should exercise prudence in determining what stairwell to use in case
of congestion.
▪ Teachers should remain with their class
for the duration of the drill.
▪ In the case of a drill classroom doors
should be locked upon exit to prevent loss of personal property. Students
should be directed to leave belongings behind.
▪ When on the street, staff members are
reminded to move students down the block, to the corner on either side.
Additionally, staff members should utilize assembly cards.
For those staff
members who are not supervising a class at the time of the drill (or true life
emergency), you are expected to assist floor wardens moving students off floors
in a calm manner. Students are not permitted to go to their lockers
during the drill
● SCHOOL TRIP NOTICE
Students
are invited to attend various trips and events that enhance their learning
experience at HSFI. Please support their experiences when signing off on
the Trip Notice Form. Please remember this form is to inform the student's
teachers that they will be attending a school function. Students are still responsible to complete
all assignments they have missed during their trip/event.

Deliver used ink cartridges (any type) and
old cell phones to Room 244. The
recycling company is now also accepting used cell phones in exchange for
money. We're starting off a new year

raised for the Glenn Sears Scholarship Fund last year, every empty
cartridge and phone will add up.

FOR THE WEEK – COLLEGE TERMS
Monday, September 26
Rolling Admission: (n) An admission
policy of considering each application as soon as all required information
(such as high school records and test scores) has been received, rather than
setting an application deadline and reviewing applications in a batch. Colleges
that use a rolling admission policy usually notify applicants of admission
decisions quickly.
Tuesday, September 27
Bachelor’s
Degree: (n) This is a degree awarded to a student
by a college or university usually after four years of study. B.A. stands for a Bachelor of Arts
degree, and B.S. stands for a Bachelor of Science degree. The primary difference between the two types
of degrees is the focus of the coursework students are required to complete in
order to earn them.
Wednesday, September 28
Associate’s
Degree: (n) An associate degree (A.A.) (A.S.) is an academic degree gained after a student
has completed 60 credits often at a community college. Students can choose to transfer their 60
credits to a four year college in order to gain a bachelor’s degree.
Thursday, September 29
Registrar:
(n) An official
recorder or keeper of records. A college
registrar is responsible for registering students, keeping academic records,
corresponding with applicants, and evaluating their credentials.
Friday, September 30
Resident Adviser: (n) Also known as RA.
Most RA’s are fellow students, usually juniors or seniors, hired to work in the
residence halls to help build community, provide resources, and handle
emergencies. Though free room and board are often included, the job is a
challenging one and many compete for available positions.
DATA
TEAM REPORT
The PBIS Data team (Mr.
Raschilla, Ms. Weiss, Mr. Rau, Mr. Blank) meets weekly to analyze the
disciplinary trends impacting the High School of Fashion Industries
community. We will make you aware of
what has happened at the school each week and have a call for action to guide
our responses to eliminate this negative behavior and promote positive
behavior.
