INSTRUCTIONAL REMINDERS
● OUR INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS FOR 2017-18 & BEYOND
□ Every student feels cared
for
□ Every student feels
challenged
● PROGRAM CHANGES COMPLETE / 9TH GRADERS GET THEIR JUPITER
LOGIN INFORMATION THIS WEEK
Program changes are complete as
students received their updated programs this past Friday. Ask students to check their program cards to
make sure they should be in your class.
Ninth graders and their families will receive their Jupiter Grades login
information this week.
● WRITING REVOLUTION POSTERS SHOULD BE UP IN CLASSOOMS
If you have
attended The Writing Revolution (TWR) training over the past three years, your
TWR posters should be hanging at eye level in your classrooms. If you do not have TWR posters, please come
by the Principal’s Office (Room 819) to pick them up.
● IMPORTANT SPECIAL EDUCATION REMINDERS
With the beginning
of the year we in room 329 wanted to provide everyone with a reminder regarding
students with IEPs and SESIS as well as the sections of the IEP which you may
find most helpful when planning your instruction. While reviewing the IEP you may
notice your Teacher Form responses or information you shared during the
meeting- this is a great example of how your insight helps us to create an
authentic, student specific IEP.
In addition to asking a special educator, you can easily determine which students in your class have IEP's by reviewing your class roster. If the first or last character of the students official is a letter, the student has an IEP. Generally, but not in all cases, a letter at the end means the student receives SETSS services, while an I, C, or T at the beginning will signify an ICT placement. There are exceptions where students have been moved from one placement to another based on their needs and this is why it is incredibly important to reference the IEP. Students within our D75 Inclusion Program will have an L as the first letter of their official class and at this time will not appear when you log-in to SESIS. We are working to gain access for those who need it. In the interim you are invited to stop by 329 to speak with Ms. Smith-Brown and review a hard copy of their IEP(s).
This year we will continue to distribute an electronic standards-based Teachers Form. The information you are required to complete on this form is subject specific and your insight will better help us in determine the needs of our students with IEPs. The Teacher Form in conjunction with your participation at the IEP meeting (if you are invited) are two critical elements we need in order to best serve our students. We try to plan our IEP and Triennial meetings with teacher schedules in mind, however there are times when families are only available at specific times and a coverage will be requested for your class.
Our monthly SIT meeting addresses concerns surrounding Special Education (placement, initials, etc) and is announced in advance in the Weekly Notes. All are welcome and encouraged to attend and if you are interested in becoming a regular member just let me know.
Please feel free to stop by room 329 if you have any questions and thank you for your continued support of our students.

● OBSERVATION CYCLE #1 BEGINS NEXT MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 25

more supportive cycle of observations, supervisors will begin visiting classes

review the Annualization language for your own understanding and make sure

ready to work in their seats once the music stops playing

department members are on the same page with regard to uniform late work policy
for homework and essays/projects based on the concept of ‘X number of days late
= X number of points off

FOR THE WEEK
September
18 – Math Mondays – Algebra
Distribute:
(v) 1 to divide
among several or many: apportion.
Earlier this year Chance the Rapper donated $1 million to Chicago public
schools and was also was part of an effort to distribute thousands of free
backpacks stuffed with school supplies at the Back to School Parade. 2. To expand:
The term distribute in algebra
refers to multiplying each of the terms within the parenthesis by
another term that is outside the parenthesis. For example: a (b + c) = a × b + a × c.
September
19 – Science Tuesday- Living Environment
Diffusion: (n) (1) spreading across a wide area. The internet
has led to a global diffusion of information. (2). a flow of matter from a region of high
concentration to one of low concentration. Diffusion can be observed by adding
a few drops of food coloring to a glass of water.
September
20 – CTE Wednesdays - Fashion Design
Monitor: (v) to watch, keep track of, or
check usually for a special purpose. Several online publications are dedicated
to monitoring the latest trends in fashion. We were told to monitor our heart
rate to ensure that we were exercising at the right pace during a cardio
workout
Library Chit Chat by
Judith Dahill, Librarian Room 501
□ New teachers will be recieving
their applications for a MyLibraryNYC.org VIP library card. Class sets of books
for students to read from MyLibraryNYC have already started arriving.
Congratulations to Ms. Moore as the first HSFI educator to check out a teacher
set!!! Thomas Knowlton, MyLibraryNYC Coordiinator just announced that there is
a teachers set of games both board and electronic games for teachers to check
out.
□ Freshman English
Library Orientation will be in October. TBD
□ Check Out the Brooklyn Book
Festival Sunday September 17.
□ The expert educator trainings
coordinated by Lisa Neilson are amazing: Want to be certified as an expert
in using technology resources you already love (like Google, BrainPop, Nearpod,
Apple, Newsela, Microsoft, and PBS)? Then apply for the #NYCSchoolsTech Partner
Certification Program (formerly IPPD). It connects NYC teachers with best
practices for using technology tools and resources for teaching and learning. Graduates are connected with an elite cohort of educators and
have opportunities to share expertise with their schools, districts, and
boroughs, at workshops, conferences, and more. This program is a part of Chancellor Carmen Farina’s
commitment to ensure students graduate from New York City
public schools with the digital skills they need to succeed. Read what participants are
saying and watch the video to
see for yourself. Sessions have a mandatory face-to-face
launch (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.). You will receive CTLE credit for
attending the launch. You can do the rest of the work online and/or at your
work site. You can check out program dates, specific opportunities, as well as
requirements for the work following the launch by viewing the program overviews
on theintranet site. Applications are
due by 3 p.m. Friday, Sept 22, 2017. There is no cost to
participate but, this is a competitive program and space is limited. The
program is not for *beginners. It is targeted to experienced technology users
who are interested in further developing their expertise and sharing with
others. Only about half of all applicants are accepted so it is important to emphasize
your expertise in your application. For classes in October, you will be
notified of your acceptance status approximately two weeks before the launch
date. Applicants for classes in November and December will be notified mid
October
