PBIS CALL TO ACTION
□ In light of current events and as the holiday season gets closer and closer, this can be a difficult time for our students. Please be sensitive towards their needs and notify guidance counselors, deans and other support staff of any concerns you may have.

□ We are officially in the home stretch of the Fall term – encourage students who need additional help in their classes to take advantage of the tutoring that is available from our teaching staff or from their classmates who are in the National Honor Society.

□ You all give so much of yourselves to our students, do not forget to take care of yourself and find time to destress – that might include attending our holiday party on December 15.

□ Important Fashion Dollar announcements to STOP TOKEN HOARDING
(1) USE FD OR LOSE THEM - Fashion Dollars will not carry over from year to year and MUST be spent during this school year
(2) We will soon be installing Interest Rates on Fashion Dollar accounts in the hopes of getting students to deposit them

OPERATIONAL NEED TO KNOW

√ All CTE Teachers, report to Ms. Boulamaali in RM 844
√ All English, Math, Science, Social Studies and Spanish Teachers and all Guidance Counselors, please report to your PLC Assignment.  Remember to bring a copy of your November CCSS Assessment and Target Student work. ROOM CHANGE: Ms. Fecsko’s PLC has moved from RM 323 to RM 545
√ All Physical Education teachers, report to Ms. Sostre in the Third Floor Gymnasium

Attendance Bubbling Must Improve
√ There were 759 Confirmation Sheets generated for the month of October – this means that 759 times during the month of October there has been incorrect bubbling – this is an ENORMOUS NUMBER!
√ A confirmation sheet is generated when a student did not go to their 3rd period class, but they were marked present another period during the day.  It is crucial that everyone takes accurate attendance for this to be avoided.  Incorrect bubbling can cause issues when we call home mid-day saying that your child is absent from school – a parent calls saying I sent my child to school – and we then have to explain that a staff member did not take attendance correctly – not the most pleasant of phone calls as well as making the school look pretty bad.  If necessary, I will be following with disciplinary meetings and file letters on this issue.
Other Important Attendance Bubbling Reminders:
(1) It is very important to turn in your sheets every night.  If sheets are not turned in, it generates more Confirmation Sheets than needed.
(2) It is mandatory if you are going on a trip, you must give the Attendance Office a list of student names with their nine digit numbers 48 hours in advance.  Students are being marked absent from their classes when they should be present because they are on a trip.  Every time a teacher goes on a trip, regardless of the period, an attendance sheet is generated for that trip.
(3) Please make sure you have turned in your November Attendance Sheets.  Confirmation Sheets for this month will be run next week.

COOL THINGS THIS WEEK…ITS ALL ABOUT SING
SING IS THE WORD…275 students and 25 staff members have signed up to participate in SING!!!
I hope many of you are excited to be part of this production – the response from the entire HSFI community has been amazing.  The schools that have done SING in the past have recommended not only individual staff get involved, but in addition we use our existing clubs, activities and teams to integrate them into the musical production.  If you are personally interested and/or want the club, activity or team that you supervise to be part of SING - please fill out the attached survey (you might need to cut and paste the link into Chrome):
For those of you interested in being part of SING – here is the per session posting to apply for - #47 – here is the link to apply (USE CHROME):

SOME THOUGHTS ON LATENESS
As we continue to have one-third of the school late to school, I am interested in pursuing a tactic we used in summer school where we held late students for first and second period in the auditorium and not allowed to go to class.  Once the music ends for the beginning of period 1 & 2, students would be directed into the auditorium. We might not be able to do this every day, but at least a couple of times a week.  While students are being held in the auditorium we can call them into the Deans and Guidance offices for direct outreach to families.
The bottom line is that we have 600+ students late in some form everyday – this cannot be the norm that we just accept.  Looking forward to discussing.

STAFF MEMBERS WHO SOARR
Thank you to MS. CHRISTINA VEGA for leading the school’s SING efforts – she wrote the grant that won HSFI the $10,000 award; she attended the kick-off SING meeting at the DOE headquarters; and now she is leading our implementation efforts.  Bravo, Ms. Vega!!!

Thank you to MS. THOMAS, our Fashion Cares adviser, for wrote HSFI’s winning proposal for a $1,000 Service-Learning grant.  HSFI was selected from hundreds of applications to receive this Service-Learning Grant!
