PBIS CALL TO ACTION
SUPPORT A GROWTH MINDSET EVERYDAY
As a school community we need to help our students increase their grit, determination and persistence in meeting academic challenges on the road to college.  It is up to us to reinforce a Growth Mindset in our daily interaction with students.  We can do this by...
...praising effort and persistence over easy success (Wow!  I see you worked really hard at this" is better than "Wow!  You're so smart."
...recognizing that the brains and talent one has are just starting points
...reinforcing that practice contributes to success--mistakes are OK if they are used to learn and improve

A COOL THING FOR NYC PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS & THEIR FAMILIES – FREE MICROSOFT SOFTWARE
The DIGITAL DIVIDE is diminishing! All parents and guardians of HSFI students and all NYC public school students will be able to download Microsoft software from https://studentoffice.net/, at no cost, on up to five of their family’s computers and five of their family’s tablets, smart phones, or other mobile devices. We gave out this information to students during OP last week.  Much of this software has education-specific content that supports our students’ academic improvement. In addition, familiarity with these tools will help students be prepared for college and careers.
This opportunity is made possible through the NYC Department of Education’s partnership with NYC Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and Microsoft.
The free Microsoft products and features that will be available include:
● Office 365 ProPlus on Windows: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Skype for Business, Access, InfoPath and Publisher installed on Windows
● Office for Mac Professional 2016: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote
● Office for iPad, iPhone, Android: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote
● Cloud service
● Office Online

OPERATIONAL NEED TO KNOW
GetSchooled.com – National Competition to Win College Readiness Competition
Please encourage your students to log onto GetSchooled.com and complete the College Readiness activities so HSFI can win the national competition.  Consider using these GetSchooled.com activities for do now activities or homework – if we win, as we did last year (twice) , we will earn a celebrity visit special assembly that our students absolutely loved last year (twice).  If you have senior students, please encourage them to fill out their federal financial aid forms (FAFSA) – this is half of our school score.

Speakers Needed for HSFI Annual Career Day
Our Annual Career Day will be held on March 11, 2016 (the morning before afternoon Parent-Teacher Conferences). In order to make this a continued success, we are reaching out to our industry contacts through our Advisory Board to share experiences and educate students. This year we need your help! We are aware that many staff members may have friends and family members with inspirational stories that they might be interested in sharing with our students. Our goal is to help our students broaden their horizons and give them an inside look at the array of careers within the fashion industry.  If you know someone who may be interested, please have them contact Anika Carter in Room 819 / ext. 8194 / ACarter15@schools.nyc.gov.
