PBIS CALL TO ACTION
● Our Lateness plan will continue later this week – late week we held 65 students after they came late to 2nd period – make sure you back up our plan by  encouraging your students to get to school on time and #1 - Bubble in lateness for students late to class on the blue and white attendance sheets
#2 - Have activities and assessments set up at the beginning of class to motivate students to get to class on time – THIS IS ESPECIALLY CRITICAL FOR 1ST & 2ND PERIOD CLASSES
#3 - Use Fashion Dollars to positively reward students who are on time – remember, the students who are late will see the on time students getting rewarded and want to get those rewards

● Please start encouraging your students to support their classmates by attending the student productions during the Spring (dates listed below) – the first one is SING on April 15 & 16 which should be amazing – please see Ms. Christina Vega, our SING Coordinator, in Room 427 if you have any specific questions – you can email her using SING@hsfi.us.  The Fashion, ICP and Art shows are not far behind!

● GUIDANCE REMINDERS
#1 - When filling out referrals you should only check off AP Guidance or AP Security.  Ms. Bernstein (AP Guidance) will make sure the referral gets to the correct counselor / Mr. Raschilla (AP Security) will assign the referral to the correct Dean
#2 - Referral Guidelines – remember the protocol for letting HSFI staff know about at-risk students:
#1 - At-Risk Referral form
#2 - If the issues persist within a given marking period, fill out a Guidance Referral
#3 - Start fresh at the beginning of the 2nd Marking Period – go back to the At-Risk Referral form
PLEASE REMEMBER THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY TUTORING REFERRALS

COOL THINGS GOING ON @ HSFI
HSFI Students SOARR in the Classroom
For Marking period one, 582 students (33.1% of the entire HSFI population) made the honor roll (85-91.99 grade point average) and 485 students (27.6% of the entire HSFI population) made the high honor roll (92-100 grade point average) – in total, over 60% of our students had over an 85 average…Most Impressive!

Youth Leader Interviews for 2016-17
The entire HSFI staff was emailed a list of 10th grade students who have 95% attendance and 80+ average – we will picking next year's Youth Leaders from this group.  Please take a look at this group and highlight any students that you feel may be good leaders.  Please email Kate McKeon at kmckeon4@schools.nyc.gov if you have anyone to nominate!

Health Fairs at HSFI During the Spring
We are lucky enough as a school community to host 2 Health Fairs for our students – the first one will be on April 13 in partnership with HealthCorps / the second one will be on April 20 in partnership with the Falcon Health Center.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION STAFF SURVEY
Hopefully you received by now the information you need to fill out the DOE Learning Environment staff survey. Please take a few minutes this week to complete the anonymous survey online.
I look carefully at the overall results to shape the direction of things like professional development and staff communication.  Prospective HSFI parents and families and students look to the results to decide whether they should apply to our school of not.
We have worked tremendously hard together to create a wonderful learning environment for our students and this is your chance to let them know. Thank you!
The link to the survey is below but you must have the unique access code from the postcard to proceed:

OPERATIONAL NEED TO KNOW
Superintendent Visits to HSFI – Monday, March 14 & Friday, March 18
On Monday, HSFI will be hosting our Superintendent Marisol Rosales and 14 Superintendents from around the United States.  Superintendents from around the country will be visiting schools throughout NYC next week and our Superintendent was asked to showcase one of her exemplary schools – of course, she choose HSFI.  We obviously want to put our best foot forward for our visitors inside and outside the classroom.
Also, please be aware that this Friday, March 18, will be hosting a professional development for all NYC DOE Superintendents.  They will not be visiting classes, but it is important that the learning environment is maintained throughout the day

OP Bell Schedule on Wednesday for Distribution of Student Surveys
The extra time will be used for students to take the DOE Learning Environment Survey.
Students DO NOT go to OP – they stay in your third period classes to take their survey.  Please encourage students to make thoughtful responses to the survey – the responses can help determine the type of student and family we get at the school – we always want the highest quality!
