HSFI SING
THIS IS IT – SING IS THIS FRIDAY & SATURDAY!!!!!

Thank you to MS. CHRISTINA VEGA for making SING a reality – this was a huge undertaking that she did with a smile every day.  Thank you to all the staff who guided our students through this journey - MR. TALLONE, MR. RUSSELL, MS. HUAMAN, MR. STAMPONE, MR. VILLALONA, MS. VARRICHIO, MS. PAZ, MS. SILVA, MS. CHAVEZ, MS. SAN JORGE, MS. BAILEY, MS. DE LA ROSA, MR. KALISCH & MS. CHUNG.

Thank you for all your support of the SING musical production – the extra credit offered, dealing with the length of these announcements, the reminders to students and you posting the posters!  We cannot thank you enough for offering your students extra credit for attending both SING productions in support of the over 100 students have been working extremely hard since January on the SING production.  It would be amazing to have a full house in our inaugural year of SING.
Here is some important information about SING that you can communicate to students when you are publicizing the event:
● The shows are this Friday, April 15 at 7:00 pm & this Saturday, April 16 at 5:00 pm
● Tickets are $4 for one show / $5 for both shows – tickets will be on sale in the FLY store and student cafeteria.  Every cent of the ticket sales will be invested into next year’s SING production – the goal is that SING becomes a fixture at HSFI.
● There are 2 shows each night – the 9th and 11th graders are working together on one show / the 10th and 12th graders are working together on one show
● The show is a competition where we will have judges that evaluate the show in different categories based off a production rubric – points will be combined over the 2 nights and a winning show will be named at the end.
● Most importantly, everything you see and hear is student produced under the guidance of our dedicated HSFI staff – the script, the acting, the songs, the dancing, the scenery – Performing Arts are alive and well at HSFI!

PBIS CALL TO ACTION
ENTERING THE HOME STRETCH
The second marking period ends on Wednesday and we will be officially in the home stretch of the school year in the third and last marking period.  The grades that our students receive in June will be the grades that colleges evaluate them on.  Students failing classes will be programmed for Summer school.  Please encourage and help your students to finish up strong!

MAINTAINING SCHOOL TONE
As we enter the home stretch of the school year, it is critical that we need to be UNIFIED as a staff in enforcing our school rules to maintain our school tone.  Please be consistent and model the correct behaviors our students need in order to SOARR to college and career readiness.
NO FOOD IN CLASSROOMS – students can only eat in the student cafeteria & the student lounge - no food should in classrooms before, during or after school – no staff or students should be eating in any computer lab
DRESS CODE – every week there are zero dress code infractions which is certainly not reality– nobody is reporting these infractions via Jupiter Grades – please make these referrals, so we can follow up with these students and help set the proper tone and attire here at HSFI
PROPER USE OF HALL / HEALTH CENTER PASSES – students can only leave the classroom with a pass / students going to the Falcon Health Center must use that specific pass
ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT POLICY - electronic equipment are only allowed to be used in classrooms for instructional purposes – students must not be allowed to take out their phones during class and do not let students charge this equipment in your classrooms
ELEVATORS – students are not allowed on staff elevators unless they have their own elevator card / ask students to show their elevator passes when they are in those elevators

COOL THINGS GOING ON @ HSFI
40 HSFI 11th GRADERS GOING ON A COLLEGE TRIP TO UPSTATE NY
On Monday and Tuesday of this week, 40 of the juniors will be on an overnight college trip to upstate New York where they will visit colleges including SUNY Binghamton and Syracuse University.

NEXT WEDNESDAY, APRIL 20 IS GOING TO BE AN EXCITING DAY AT HSFI
On this day, HSFI will be rockin’ – our Health Fair in coordination with the Falcon Health Center will be taking place; our annual Blood Drive is going on; and the opening of our Photography exhibit that is in partnership with the International Center of Photography will lift off after school in Room 819.

STUNTS TEAM CONTINUES TO STEAM ROLL OPPONENTS
Two weeks, Two decisive wins for the HSFI Stunts team!  This past Saturday HSFI beat Lehman High School 16-4.  Last week, HSFI defeated Stuyvesant HS.  All Stunts team members have put so much effort into every practice and their stunts and tumbling were very clean. The team is ready for their matchup next week!

OPERATIONAL NEED TO KNOW
2nd Cycle Classes Begin on Monday
The Tuesday / Thursday classes will now meet Monday / Wednesday / Friday and Vice Versa.  Among the classes that the affected by this change in cycles affect include Physical Education, Health and College Prep APPS.

Monday & Tuesday are OP Bell Schedule / 11th Grade Student Voice in Course Choice
Our guidance counselors will be visiting their 11th grade OPs on Monday and Tuesday – their message will be letting our juniors know that the school will be sending them an email regarding their Math & Science classes next year.  They will choose whether or not they (1) Only want a Science class next year; (2) Only want a Math class next year; (3) Want both a Math & Science class next year.  Our hope is that our students choose both Math & Science, so they will strengthen their college resumes.

Important Attendance Office Reminders
#1 - The week of April 11 attendance sheets will be printed daily.  They will not be in teacher's mailboxes the night before, but the day of.
#2 - Please return your March attendance sheets.  There are 5 pages of teachers who have not returned their sheets.  If you would like to know if you owe sheets, please stop by the Attendance office in Room 201.

Be Considerate of Guidance Office When Making Copies
When making copies in the copy room, please make sure to put back any supplies you may borrow from the guidance office.  Many items have gone missing lately, and then staff members are without staplers, pens, etc.  Please make sure to return these items to the guidance office staff member once you have finished with them.

Our students truly enjoyed this event and had the time of their lives. We can’t wait to see them shine at the prom.

Thank you to MS. McKEON for running a financial aid workshop for our 11th grade juniors.

Thank you to all the staff involved in our Industry Partnership with Kleinfeld Bridal including MS. BALMIR for leading the effort that produced over 50 mood boards for the Kleinfeld executives to look over – 5 finalists were selected and their designs will be produced by student teams.

Thank you to MS. BROADBELT, our Fashion Show Director, for leading the efforts in making our annual show spectacular – this past Friday she organized and executed a silent auction to raise money for the show and scholarships for our students.

Thank you to MS. PADRON for volunteering to go counsel students from a neighboring high school that was in crisis after the sudden death of one of their classmates.

Thank you to MS. CORCHADO, MS. ABREU, MS. CHAVEZ, MS. JOSEPH & MR. TALLONE for keeping the main office running efficiently while work is being done in the space for the move to the first floor and Room 201 becomes a new computer lab for our students.

Thank you to MR. RAPPA for preparing a special dissection lab for Advanced Placement Biology.
