PBIS CALL TO ACTION
CONTINUING OUR SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE DEVELOPMENT…
As a follow-up to the Yale University Social-Emotional Intelligence presentation on the first day of school, please take 5-10 minutes to complete this survey on our school culture and your feelings about HSFI - we will soon begin our efforts to create a charter of what feelings all HSFI stakeholders want to feel here at school - https://goo.gl/forms/8QPszzYOtQGXMpOQ2
This survey is for all staff - no matter your position at HSFI - all responses are confidential.

ENCOURAGE HSFI STUDENTS TO CHECK HSFI EMAILS
Supporting our college readiness theme, remind your students that they should be checking their HSFI email every day.  Students should be getting in the habit of checking their HSFI every day because they will lose out on many opportunities if they don’t do so.

INCREDIBLY MARKING PERIOD 1 IS WINDING DOWN
There are 11 class days left until the end of marking period on October 21.  Send out Jupiter Progress reports to your students and contact families of at-risk students.

LET THOSE FASHION DOLLARS FLY
The FLY Grand Opening is coming at the end of the month, so give out those Fashion Dollars to students to positively reinforce to the behaviors you want in your classrooms and around the building.

HELP NEEDED!
(1) We still need Staff Mentors – our at-risk students can use a helping hand to stay on the right track
(2) We need staff to oversee the National Honor Society tutoring during 9th period everyday except Wednesday.  Our NHS do all the work, you just need to oversee their efforts.

INSTRUCTIONAL REMINDERS
INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION PLAN SUPPORT
IEP meetings are in progress; Please be sure to submit teacher reports when asked to do so and participate in IEP meetings when invited. You're participation and insight is crucial in creating a quality IEP.

JOIN OUR GOOGLE+ INSTRUCTIONAL BEST PRACTICES COMMUNITY
Please join our HSFI Google+ community where we can share instructional best practices with one another - https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/108500685866740418716
This community is a repository for best instructional practices that utilize technology to enhance teaching and learning.  We welcome you to share your practices with colleagues and join the community using your HSFI.us google accounts.  Once a member of the community, you can share these practices with the entire school community.

OPERATIONAL NEED TO KNOW
CHECK YOUR DOE & HSFI EMAILS EVERYDAY

GIVE FLYERS YOU WANT POSTED TO STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Thank you for your enthusiasm with your clubs and activities & wanting to spread the word with flyers posted around the building.  Do not post them randomly around the building – we have bulletin boards on every floor specifically devoted to student clubs and activities.  Leave your flyers in Assistant Principal Steve Rau’s mailbox and he will make sure student government representatives post them around the building.  Make enough copies for him so it does not give him extra work.

RESCHEDULED FIRST EVACUATION DRILL ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5
This a notification that we plan to have our rescheduled Evacuation Drill on Wednesday at 9:55 AM.  During this timed exercise, everyone is expected to leave the building.  Additionally, below you will find reminders and requirements that have been developed to insure a safe and orderly evacuation:
▪ No individual may use the elevators during a fire or drill of any kind.  Limited mobility individuals should be directed to the room ending in 29, on the floor that they are currently on. First responders and floor wardens know to report to these locations and provide assistance if necessary.
▪ Teachers should escort students to the nearest stairwell on either side of the floor they are assigned.  Staff members should exercise prudence in determining what stairwell to use in case of congestion.
▪ Teachers should remain with their class for the duration of the drill.
▪ In the case of a drill classroom doors should be locked upon exit to prevent loss of personal property. Students should be directed to leave belongings behind.
▪ When on the street, staff members are reminded to move students down the block, to the corner on either side.  Additionally, staff members should utilize assembly cards.
For those staff members who are not supervising a class at the time of the drill (or true life emergency), you are expected to assist floor wardens moving students off floors in a calm manner.  Students are not permitted to go to their lockers during the drill
