PBIS CALL TO ACTION

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY TUTORING BEGINS THIS WEEK

We should all be excited that our National Honor Society tutoring begins this week - thank you Ms. Adamczyk, Ms. Stambouly & Mr. Rau for your efforts in coordinating these efforts.  Fill out those academic referrals and encourage your students to attend these sessions that are during 9th and 10th periods!

FEEDBACK FROM SUPERINTENDENT ROSALES
#1 – She agreed with our identification of the school’s Problem of Practice that focuses on rigor and differentiating instruction for this rigorous instruction.
#2 – Our immediate next step is to insure that all lesson plans have rigorous learning objectives.  From this visit and previous ones, she believes that some of the tasks that our students are assigned are not as rigorous as they can be.
#3 – Formative assessments need to be part of all lessons – the information gained from these assessments will help teachers design their lesson plans as well as influencing instructional moves during a class.  These assessments can also support our efforts around rigor – you will gain information on which specific students need to be challenged in particular areas.
These next steps represent cornerstones to well-planned lessons that will lead to improved student achievement.  We look forward to working together in these areas.

CONTINUING OUR SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE DEVELOPMENT…
As a follow-up to the Yale University Social-Emotional Intelligence presentation on the first day of school, please take 5-10 minutes to complete this survey on our school culture and your feelings about HSFI - we will soon begin our efforts to create a charter of what feelings all HSFI stakeholders want to feel here at school - https://goo.gl/forms/8QPszzYOtQGXMpOQ2
This survey is for all staff - no matter your position at HSFI - all responses are confidential.

INCREDIBLY MARKING PERIOD 1 IS WINDING DOWN
There are 8 class days left until the end of marking period on October 21.  Send out Jupiter Progress reports to your students and contact families of at-risk students.

CHAPERONE REQUEST FROM STUDENT GOVERNMENT

As part of The High School of Fashion Industries, Student Government Organization host events in order to keep HSFI School spirit high and give students an opportunity to interact with each other.  In addition, these activities help to raise funds for future school wide events.  As a result, we will appreciate your assistance in helping to make these events special; as well as to secure the safety of all students.  If you can, will you please take the time out to attend this amazing event?

Thursday, October 13
Pundit: (n) A learned person, expert, or authorityThe industry pundits gave the new mini laptop a thumbs-up. “CNN opted for more speeches and less commentary, airing extended remarks by convention speakers rather than frequently cutting to analysis from pundits.”
Friday, October 14
Spin: (n) distinctive interpretation (especially as used by politicians to sway public opinion). A politician attempts to shape the way the public looks at an issue or event, much the way a tennis player uses spin to direct the ball. The campaign tried to put a favorable spin on the candidate’s controversial remarks.
