Photoville

During mid September, Sarah Ventura presented her work on a youth panel in Photoville. Photoville is an event where photographers from all over the world can present their work in Downtown Brooklyn. Sarah Ventura presented her work on stage to kids of all ages. Her work was about a trip she took to the Dominican Republic in the Spring of this year. Sarah hasn't visited the Dominican Republic in more than a decade and everything seemed new to her and that's what she captured. She took photographs of her family, their lifestyle and food. She was one of four people that was on the youth panel. She was very nervous but excited, and she said she would definitely do it again!

HSFI Students mentioned in WWD for designs created

for fashion week featured in JSong International show!!

JSong RTW Spring 2016

Water, “always changing, flowing and active,” inspired Way Zen's JSong collection for spring.

The inspiration for Way Zen’s spring JSong collection was the deep beauty she finds in water. “It’s really magical because it’s always changing, flowing and active,” she said backstage. This translated into a lineup of lightweight, fluid separates done in white, coral and shades of blue found in streams, rushing rivers and the sea.
An ocean blue cotton gauze tank dress and cloud blue cotton jersey feather dress with a water-drop patterned bodice set the mood as sweet, feminine and wearable. There was also a pair of great transitional sea-shell-color evening pants in crepe paired with a gold sequined top. The real highlights were Zen’s youthful, no-fuss designs: a crystal-blue linen jumpsuit with voluminous legs and a fun white cotton “transformable” shirtdress with a wrap-front waist tie — pieces that fit easily into the Lower East Side scene. And though creativity is usually to be applauded, the looks with ribbon-looped holes were the only ones that felt overly complicated for a collection with such ease.

Students joined History Makers Miriam Driot and Harriette Cole in the Library as they shared insider tips on the fashion industry.

Givenchy 2015

Thanks to a joint effort coordinated by KCD, CFDA, and the Advisory Board, sixty-five students were awarded access to one of the most coveted tickets of the season; Givenchy’s premiere Fashion Week Runway Show. The High School of Fashion Industries seniors were mesmerized by this year’s hottest fashions as they graced the runway at Hudson River Park, Pier 26, on September 11, 2015. Students described the show as a once in lifetime opportunity that was both “inspiring and breathtaking.”

Macy's 2015
An invitation was extended to The High School of Fashion Industries to attend Macy's presents Fashion's Front Row on Thursday, September 17, 2015 @ 7:15pm. Forty Five lucky students were granted an amazing opportunity to attend the Macy’s fashion week debut which featured big name designers such as Tommy Hilfiger, Sean John, Hello Kitty, Heidi Klum and Jessica Simpson, just to a name a few. Students also enjoyed guest performances from superstars Jason Derulo and Nate Ruess. A special thanks to CFDA and the Advisory Board for making this wonderful opportunity accessible to the students of HSFI.

This year we will be starting our third year of the Soarring Stars mentoring program here at Fashion and it is going to be the best yet! For those of you who don't know about the program, it is a student/teacher mentoring program that is run during the day. The mentor and mentees
(max 3 per mentor) will meet during a common period once a week to develop a lasting relationship. The mentors will also meet once a month after school to discuss progress, be a part of mentor training, and assess the needs of the program. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please log in to fashionhighschool.net and complete the per session posting for Mentoring. And when you get a chance, please take this quick survey that will help us match you with your mentees!

The High School Of Fashion Industries remains committed to providing the most up to date training tailored to school related emergency preparedness. In order to support our efforts to train the entire HSFI community in the latest of emergency readiness procedures, we are releasing a series of videos developed by the New York City Department of Education that will focus on knowing what to do before, during and after a school wide emergency.
We strongly encourage everyone to watch these important videos and direct any questions that you may have regarding this matter to graschi@schools.nyc.gov. Please click on the aforementioned link to begin the training, and thank you for your participation in this endeavor.
As with most the links we share, it is best to use the CHROME browser to view them.

Please be advised that there will be a Lactation Station located in Room 1009
