#1 – AWESOME COLLEGE T-SHIRT DAY / COLLEGE ACCESS SHOWCASE FOR THE MAYOR’S OFFICE & DEPUTY CHANCELLOR
Thank you for an amazing College T-shirt Day – we practically had the entire staff participate in this event as shown by these photos.  In speaking with our students, they verbalized the tremendous impact that you had on them by wearing these t-shirts and sweatshirts.  We have created a wonderful college going culture with our APPS classes, Youth Leaders, Bridge Coaches and this annual event!
On Monday, October 26, HSFI will be showcased by the Mayor’s Office and NYC Department of Education for our college access work.  The Mayor or Deputy Mayor, Deputy Chancellor Phil Weinberg and the press will be here to celebrate the great work we do in this area of focus.

We encourage you to have students make an appointment with us if they need help with any aspect of the college process. #2 – DISTRICT ATTORNEY CYBERBULLYING WORKSHOP
On Wednesday and Thursday, we will be having the NY District Attorney’s office to speak to our students about Cyberbullying and its seriousness.  Most of the student conflicts here at HSFI (and probably the world) are the result of some negative interaction in the virtual world.

#3 – FASHION DOLLARS PRICE LIST
The Fashion Dollars price list is out (see below) – please market these privileges and rewards to our students and leverage them to get our student to follow through on the positive behaviors that they need to succeed.

#4 – UPCOMING IMPORTANT VISITS – MANHATTAN SUPERINTENDENT & INSIDESCHOOLS.ORG
þ This Friday, October 16 – Manhattan Superintendent Marisol Bradbury and her team will be visiting HSFI to attend classes and speak to students and staff
þ Next Monday, October 19 – InsideSchools.org will be visiting HSFI to do a profile on the school.  InsideSchools.org is the main place where parents go to get information on NYC schools.  We always want the best and brightest students and families – a positive review from InsideSchools.org will go a long way to helping our admissions efforts.

#5 – CHANGING ANNOUNCEMENT TIME CURRENT RESULTS
The current results of the survey that I sent out on Friday – ‘Would you support changing the timing of the announcements to the beginning of 3rd period?

Please come to room 127 with any questions.

#8 – NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY TUTORING / MENTORING
I am pleased to share with you another tool in our arsenal to support our struggling students – tutoring and mentoring from our National Honor Society students.  Every day we will have our very best students from the National Honor Society available after school both during 9th and 10th periods to tutor and mentor our struggling students in the Charles Nolan Room in the library.  As we know all too well, many times our students listen to their classmates more than they listen to us adults.  WE NEED REFERRALS to get our National Honor Society students working and get our struggling students the help they need.  I know you have students in your classes that can benefit from this peer tutoring.
The way you refer a student to this tutoring is to submit an academic guidance referral on Jupiter Grades with the message NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY in the message section.  We will then get meet with the student and help get them to the tutoring sessions.
Thank you to Ms. Adamczyk (madamcz@schools.nyc.gov), the National Honor Society Director, and Assistant Principal Steve Rau (srau@schools.nyc.gov) for their efforts in executing this program.  Please feel free to email either of them if you have any questions.
