1. Microsoft Office Free Downloads for DOE Employees:
Please let your staff members know that all New York City Department of Education (DOE) employees who have active @schools.nyc.gov email accounts can now download Microsoft Office on up to five computers and five mobile devices. The software, intended for download on personal computers and devices, includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Access (PC only), and Publisher (PC only). For instructions on how to download, read the FAQs<http://intranet.nycboe.net/HR/Incentives-Discounts/MSOfficeForStaff.htm>.
Please don’t download the software at school or work. The DOE will roll out Microsoft collaboration tools (OneDrive, Skype for Business) later this year after network infrastructure improvements are completed.

3. Authors at HSFI in May: Fans of the Impossible Life by Kate Scelsa 5/24 and CurveBall graphic novel by Jeremy Sorese's  5/25. These authors are visiting 2 HSFI classes, who are reading their books, as part of DOE's Lambda Literary<http://www.lambdaliterary.org/> LGBTQ Writers in Schools<http://www.lambdaliterary.org/lgbt-writers-in-schools/about-lgbt-writers-in-schools/>. Each class is creating art and reflections on their reading of the books. Thank you DOE for this program which gives amazing "free books" to our students to keep to build up their reading library at home and to support a reading culture. Ms. Ganci-Zubrovich. Art and Ms. Levine, English classes have been working with these authors on this new DOE initiative.

4. National Library Month was a resounding success for creating a reading culture at HSFI. We reached our GOAL of 10,000+ check outs for April! Summer Reading starts in June. Students and Staff may check out books over the summer. All books are due September 19, 2016. Check out the facts about the importance of Summer Reading at NY Libraries:http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/libdev/summer/   Many national hs librarians report that reading dwindles in hs but according to Richard Hasenyager, NYC DOE Library Director HSFI  stands out in creating a reading culture that averages @15,000 circulation per school year! Great work HSFI Community!

5. Please remind Seniors to return their library materials asap.
