PBIS CALL TO ACTION
4 WEEKS UNTIL REGENTS EXAMS
Not much time until the term and school year ends.  Encourage students to finish up strong with graduation and summer school at stake!  You must communicate with the students themselves, parents, counselors and supervisors if students are at-risk of not passing classes and Regents.

END OF YEAR CELEBRATION
Join your colleagues for an end of year celebration on Thursday, June 9 at 4pm.  Please contact Ms. Ianniello in Room 819 / extension 8191 to let her know you will be coming – we need to give them a head count.

MAINTAINING SCHOOL TONE
As we enter the home stretch of the school year, it is critical that we need to be UNIFIED as a staff in enforcing our school rules to maintain our school tone.  Please be consistent and model the correct behaviors our students need in order to SOARR to college and career readiness.
NO FOOD IN CLASSROOMS – students can only eat in the student cafeteria & the student lounge - no food should in classrooms before, during or after school – no staff or students should be eating in any computer lab
DRESS CODE – every week there are zero dress code infractions which is certainly not reality– nobody is reporting these infractions via Jupiter Grades – please make these referrals, so we can follow up with these students and help set the proper tone and attire here at HSFI
PROPER USE OF HALL / HEALTH CENTER PASSES – students can only leave the classroom with a pass / students going to the Falcon Health Center must use that specific pass
ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT POLICY - electronic equipment are only allowed to be used in classrooms for instructional purposes – students must not be allowed to take out their phones during class and do not let students charge this equipment in your classrooms
ELEVATORS – students are not allowed on staff elevators unless they have their own elevator card / ask students to show their elevator passes when they are in those elevators

HELP NEEDED
Peer Mediation Plans for 2016-17
We are looking to recruit and train a team of students in conflict resolution, and we need your help identifying students.  The hope is that these young adults will work with their peers to resolve conflicts before they even get to a dean or a guidance counselor!  In order to participate in the program, students must complete an application and complete 10 hours of leadership training.  For the 2015-16 school year, the training dates will be as follows:
(1) Tuesday, May 24th 3:45 pm to 5:45 pm
(2) Thursday, May 26th 3:45 pm to 5:45 pm
(3) Thursday, June 2nd 345 pm to 545 pm
(4) Tuesday, June 7th 345 pm to 545 pm
(5) Monday, June 27th 10 am to 2 pm
Ideally a student is able to attend all of these training dates. However, we plan to run this as a weekly club during the 2016-17 school year, so any student who cannot attend these dates will have the opportunity to get trained next year and will be able to join us throughout the year.   Please feel free to click here for a pdf of the application. You can print it out and give it to students. You can also find paper copies near the mailboxes on the first floor. Click here for a video showing a peer mediation in action. Feel free to share this with students.  Additionally, you can click here to let us know about a student who you think we should reach out to. If you fill out this form, then we will reach out to the student.
Peacefully yours,
Anne Looser, Dean & Kevin Kearns, Restorative Justice Coordinator

Chaperones Needed for 2 Senior Trips
May 27 is the senior trip to Bear Mountain / June 3 is the senior trip to Dorney Park – chaperones for these trips are needed.  Please do not volunteer if your absence will have a negative impact on students getting ready for Regents.  If you are interested, please get in touch with Mr. Rau – SRau@hsfi.us / SRau@schools.nyc.gov / Rooms 731 or 829 (Student Lounge).

Identifying the Next Group of Peer Mentors
We are currently accepting applications for PGC Peer Leadership program for the 2016-2017 school year.  Students who are currently sophomores or juniors are encouraged to apply to be Peer leaders!  If chosen these students will:
(1) Take a year-long leadership course and receive course credit
(2) Facilitate weekly discussions and activities with our incoming freshmen
(3) Serve as positive role models throughout the school
(4) Participate and be trained in team-building, group facilitation, problem solving, decision making, and communication skills
(5) Learn about specific content area including time management, academic pressures, relationships with family and friend, and other topics
(6) Participate in an overnight retreat, family nights, a mid-year retreat, and much more!
Applications are due to Ms. Feil by May 20th!  Applications can be found in the 3rd floor gym, the peer leadership bulletin board (across from the teacher elevators!) or from any PGC advisor (Ms. Feil, Ms. Dawson, or Ms. Conaghan).

SUMMER SCHOOL AT HSFI
Summer School Staff Needed
We are holding summer school at HSFI and we would like to have as many HSFI staff working as possible.  Applications submitted after May 27, 2016 will be considered late and you will have difficulty in getting a position.  Here is the link:
Please let your supervisor know if you are applying for a summer school position.

OPERATIONAL NEED TO KNOW
Common Core Testing on Wednesday, June 1
Only students taking the CC Trigonometry & Integrated Algebra Regents attend class on Wednesday, June 1.  We will be on a special testing schedule with a large majority of staff given proctoring assignments.  There will be no regular classes on this date.

New Office Spaces
Assistant Principal J. Tallone, Secretary J. Chin & Community Associate V. Montenegro are now located in Room 201.  Room 223 will soon be a Career & Technical Education / NYC Department of Education office.

New Main Office (Room 125) Protocols
#1 - This is just a reminder that all late arriving staff members should report to our new Main Office in Room 125 to sign in before reporting to their classrooms.  Thank you for your cooperation.
#2 - In the interest of safety, all visitors will be directed to the main office to insure that a staff member will be expecting them on that date and time.  Staff is responsible for alerting the main office when they expect a visitor.  The NYCDOE requires that all guests have valid ID when they enter the building and that they sign in.  Safety is a concern that we all share.

Point of view: The story is told from the perspective of a teenage boy.   3."Perspective is the technique of representing a three-dimensional image on a two-dimensional surface- like canvas or paper.”  The use of perspective in the Renaissance reached its height around 1500 as seen in the fresco, The School or Athens by Raphael, the painter and architect.
Tuesday, May 17

Wednesday, May 18
explicit (adj.) precisely and clearly expressed; readily observable. The game is able to teach you its complex rules without explicit instructions; instead, you learn by doing. The strategy’s explicit goal is to make it as easy as possible for people to borrow and spend.
Thursday, May 19
implicit (adj.) Implied though not plainly expressed; inherent in the nature of something.  Though our professor didn’t say anything about the problem we caused, we heard the implicit criticism in her voice.
