CALL TO ACTION
● EXPLAIN CUMULATIVE GRADING TO STUDENTS
Explain to your students that
grades are cumulative, meaning that all grades count during a given term. Grades do not start over with the second
marking period and there are not separate grades for each marking period. Be specific - Second marking period grades
are a combination of the first and second marking periods; Third marking period
grades and the grades that go on a student’s transcript and seen by colleges
are a combination of the first, second and third marking periods.
● USING PARENT ENGAGEMENT TIME
Thank you for all your efforts in
updating your grades on Jupiter Grades – it is important that teachers directly
reach out to families if a student is failing.
After marking period one ended, our guidance counselors reached out to
the families of students who failed multiple classes and there were many instances
where the parents were hearing this for the first time and putting the
counselors in an uncomfortable position.
Use your Parent Engagement time to reach out to these families directly
by phone. Reach out to these families
reminding them of Parent – Teacher conferences on November 17 and 18.
● NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY MARKETED AS HOMEWORK HELP
We are focused in on developing a
school-wide Homework policy – at the same time we are going to rebrand National
Honor Society tutoring as Homework Help.
Signs will be around the building soon.
Continue to gather information on how long it takes students to do
assignments.
● PROMOTING PEER MEDIATION BETWEEN STUDENTS
As you know, we believe at HSFI
that students taking the lead in the school is the way to go. Ms. Looser and Mr. Kearns have trained some
of our students to do peer mediations between students in conflict with one
another. Promote this peer mediation to
your students – here is what the Google form looks like:
● FASHION DOLLARS DISTRIBUTION ALIGNED TO HSFI PROBLEM OF PRACTICE
Fashion Dollars have never been
more valuable, use Fashion Dollars the right way including:
(1) Aligning the distribution of
Fashion Dollars to the school’s problem of practice involving rigorous student
tasks. Reward students with Fashion
Dollars for trying challenging activities during a lesson. We need to positively reinforce rigor and
move away from just reinforcing compliance and basic class participation.
(2) Verbalize out loud for the
entire class why a student is receiving Fashion Dollars. You are not getting the full impact of this
reward system if the student does not hear why they are receiving Fashion
Dollars. You are not getting the full
impact of this reward system if the entire class does not hear why a specific
student received Fashion Dollars. This
will result in all students clearly understanding why they are being
distributed and will motivate students to produce similar behaviors.

VTODs
FOR THE WEEK
After Monday’s FINAL Government
and Election VTOD, what follows are lexical arrays of terms that are connected
in meaning but often reflect differences in tone, mood, or levels of intensity.
For example: peek, glance, scowl, stare,
and glare.
Lexical
Array: from Attentive to Enthrall
Monday, November 7
Coalition: (n) a group of people
organizations or countries who have joined together for a common purpose: Nations that do not agree on all issues might
form a coalition because they all want peace. More than 60 environmental groups
from the states whose rivers drain into the Chesapeake Bay have formed a
coalition to press for stronger federal government efforts to clean up their
local waterways.
Wednesday, November 9
Attentive (v) timelines of the important
events in their lives. There is such a constant turnover in the branch staff
that no one is attentive to customer needs.
Thursday, November 10
Engage (v) engross; to have one's
attention, mind, or energy fully occupied. The environmental project engaged
the participants so much that they forgot the time. The youth organization
funds programs that keep young people engaged and headed toward a promising
future.
DATA
TEAM REPORT
The PBIS Data team (Mr.
Raschilla, Ms. Weiss, Mr. Rau, and Mr. Blank) meets weekly to analyze the
disciplinary trends impacting the High School of Fashion Industries
community. We will make you aware of
what has happened at the school each week and have a call for action to guide
our responses to eliminate this negative behavior and promote positive
behavior.
