Holiday Window Unveiling

On Wednesday, December 14, 2016, HSFI had their annual holiday window unveiling ceremony. Students were afforded the opportunity to partner and learn from window wizard Simon Doonan, creative ambassador at large for Barneys. What started off as a Master Class, a series of workshops allowing industry leaders to interact with students in a classroom setting, is now a huge production. The students always looked forward to seeing Simon walk through their classroom door because they knew they are learning from a legend. Attendees included New York State Senator, Brad Hoylman, and Barneys Executives. Barneys has had a long-standing relationship with the school and has partnered on numerous occasions by providing various internships and opportunities. Industry professional and the mastermind behind the entire event, Christene Selleck guided senior visual merchandising students from conception to execution. The Visual Merchandising Senior students focused on Female pop icons who broke barriers, and records to propel Music forward to shatter any archetypes of how women were treated within their respective Genres. These Icons Pushed the envelope broke perceptions of what women were supposed to do, say and look like. The students transformed windows and transported viewers of the unveiling to another world. The Holiday Window Unveiling was also covered by NY1. Please be sure to click on the links below to gain access:

POSSE SCHOLARSHIP

Congratulations to Aria Mustary for earning the Posse Scholarship that grants her a FULL RIDE for all Four Years.
Here is a short interview our Social Media Team had with her:

What have you learned about yourself in these last 4 years? What words of advice have stuck with you?
In these last four years, I've learned that I love being to keep myself busy and doing a million things at once. But sometimes, in doing so much I'd get stressed out or mess up.
So, Principal Blank then told me to not follow the "jack of all trades, master of none" and to make sure to be amazing at things I really love doing. This is also the advice I'll be taking with me to college.

What advice would you give Freshman Students to succeed?
Freshman students, try to really get used to your high school classes/structure and join as many clubs that interest you. Also, it's not bad to try to be "smart" or to try to do better. Don't worry about it if someone doesn't like you because of that. If they're trying to pull you down, they're already below you.

Whats your dream job?
To be an entrepreneur and create my own company. I've also loved interning at the Met Museum, so it also would be a dream to run it someday.

where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
10 years from now, I'll be 27 and have already created my own company through the help of Babson College. I'd hopefully still be trying to help injustices or poverty or other causes I care about through charity.
  • Extracurriculars include:
Founder and President of UNICEF Club
    COO of FLY Fashion NY
    Member of National Honor Society
    Barneys High School Intensive
Intern & Project Manager of the first @metteens Instagram at the Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • Current Major:  Virtual Enterprise/Business Marketing
  • major in college: Business Entrepreneurship
  • College attending: Babson College
Advice you'd give your younger self?
I'd tell my younger self that "education is important, but your sanity is critical. So, between taking care of your sister & mother and trying to keep up with exams & extracurriculars is not easy, but you need to know that you'll make the teachers you love very proud someday. Enjoy the time you have with your true friends and loved ones, and take it easy."
