WEEKLY BULLETIN for Week Beginning 5.2.22

HAPPY TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

I want to thank all our teachers and all staff a Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!  Thank you for all your efforts during one of the most challenging school years ever.  In everyone’s mailbox is a gift certificate for any FAB / FLY merchandise at the school store - this is a small token of appreciation.  Ms. Arcamay is working on a teacher generated music playlist and we hope to have a couple of other ways that HSFI will appreciate your efforts.

HELP NEEDED - CLASS VISITS FOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE LEARNING & ACTION TEAM

HSFI Teachers

The Instruction & Curriculum Learning & Action Team (LAT) from the Advisory Committee on Equity & Belongingness needs your help.  The group, equally composed of students and staff, is trying to do a pilot instructional rounds this Thursday, May 5 and needs some classes to visit during Periods 3 and/or 4 on that day.  The pilot round is designed to have this team learn how to take low inference notes, look for patterns and then be involved in planning sessions on how our classrooms can display equity and belongingness.  These visits are 100% non-evaluative and just for learning purposes.  They just need 9 classroom visits for the rounds – there will be 3 groups of 4-5 people (students and teachers) doing 3 classroom visits for around 15-20 minutes each.

Please consider offering your class for one of these visits by using the Google Form - https://forms.gle/jj5ZCArTJnkp3tx18

Thank you on behalf of the students and staff of this Learning & Action Team (LAT)!

CALL TO ACTION

Every week, I will share with you a ‘Call To Action’ around our school goals that will help drive our work for that week.

HSFI ‘CARED FOR’ GOAL – RELATIONSHIPS & REALNESS

LOOK OUT FOR TRAUMA IN OUR STUDENTS AS THE TERM WINDS DOWN

While many of our students have thrived in the return to school, we know there are many students who are struggling.  Students are worried about failing classes, going to summer school and taking standardized Regents tests for the first time in years.  Please look for changes in your students and let one of our mental health professionals know if you see a child in distress.

HSFI ‘CHALLENGED’ GOAL – RIGOR & RELEVANCE

THE THIRD & FINAL MARKING PERIOD OF THE SPRING TERM CONTINUES

The third and final marking period of the Spring term continues - please make sure students know where they stand in their classes and know what is required for them to receive the grades that they would like to receive.  This marking period is especially critical for at-risk students because summer school and promotion decisions are based on these grades.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW ITEMS:

SUMMER SCHOOL JOB APPLICATION

Our summer school will be back at HSFI this year.  All applications submitted after May 23 will be considered late and will be difficult to get hired for the summer.  Here is the link to sign up for summer school:

https://www.nycenet.edu/summerschool/summerjobs/

COLLEGE DECISION DAY

We will be celebrating College Decision Day this Tuesday, May 3 - in support of our seniors making their college decision, please consider wearing some sort of College Gear - t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, etc.

FASHION SHOWS - SAVE THE DATES

Below are the Save The Dates for our Fashion Shows - our Public Show is on May 18 and the Industry Show is on May 24.  We would love you to attend both shows, but we would like all staff to attend the Industry Show where HSFI Staff will be honored for supporting our students in such exemplary ways over the past couple of years.
