#1 – LUNCH APPLICATIONS – URGENT HELP NEEDED!!!!!
I hope the entire staff understands the significance of the 500+ students who still have not returned their lunch application – you have a list of your students.  We have not made much of a dent in this list and the deadline is fast approaching.  Follow up with these students and help motivate them to return these applications.  Always remember that HSFI receives $1 million dollars in Title I funding through the collection of these lunch applications – our school would look a whole lot different without these funds – people’s jobs and student services are at stake.

#2 – CHANCELLOR FARINA COLLEGE ACCESS VISIT
We should all celebrate the impressive college going culture that we have created as recognized by Chancellor Farina and Deputy Chancellor Weinberg.  They were super impressed with the work we have done around college access and how it is embedded into our culture and school day.  All of our visitors loved the SOARRing paintings in the hallways (Thank you Ms. Arcamay!)  They visited two APPS classes along with the College Board President David Coleman and a ton of press.  Thank you to Ms. Berroa and Ms. Vega for having your APPS classes at the top of their game.  Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer joined us for the press conference in the college office.  The star of the entire visit was senior Youth Leader Isabella Lajara who spoke with incredible composure and passion for the work she does for her peers.  The visit was used to announce that the NYC DOE and the College Board will have all NYC juniors in public schools take the SAT in school for free beginning next year – our juniors will get this privilege this school year in March.
There are many thanks to go around including all the staff who have served on the APPS committee and taught APPS classes with such enthusiasm.  I would like acknowledge some staff for their extraordinary efforts.  First, thank you to our college counselor Kate McKeon and Assistant Principal Rachel Bernstein who oversee the entire operation.  They have built these systems from scratch and now we are showcased as the top college access school in NYC – most impressive!  Thank you to guidance counselor Jessica Weiss who has tirelessly worked to get more opportunities for our students surrounding college access whether it is securing college trips or bringing Princeton Review into HSFI for review classes or supervising our Bridge Coaches; in addition she came up with APPS (Advocating & Preparing for Post-Secondary Success) acronym.  Thank you to our incredible guidance team of counselors that has taken ownership of supporting our students in the college process – Ms. Vongerichten, Mr. Sia, Mr. Jones (our Naviance Czar), Mr. Duke, Ms. San Jorge and Ms. Padron – these dedicated professionals leave no stone unturned for their caseloads of students.

#3 – HSFI STUDENTS SOARR IN MARKING PERIOD 1
□ 365 qualified for the Principal’s High Honor roll (92-100 grade point average) – 20% of the entire student population
□ 646 students qualified for the Honor roll (85-91.99 grade point average) – 36% of the entire student population
□ 1011 students (out of 1804 students) had an 85+ average – 56% of the entire student population

#4 – FASHION DOLLAR DISTRIBUTION GUIDELINES
Fashion Dollar are now a valuable commodity – we having students going out to lunch and we had our first ice cream after school party this past Thursday - we need to maintain their value and guard against inflation.  Below is a chart that outlines how many Fashion Dollars should be given for specific positive behaviors.  This chart will be distributed to students this week.  Moving forward, do not go beyond these guidelines to maintain consistency.
Please encourage your students to deposit their tokens – we are running low.  If you out of tokens, please use FashionSoaars.com for the distribution of Fashion Dollars.

#5 – USE CORRECT HEALTH CENTER PASSES
This is text from an email I received from the Falcon Health Center Director, “we are getting a number of students coming in to the health center with pieces of paper, teddy bears, hello kitty as passes.”  Use the correct health center pass – we are directing the health center to not accept students until they have this pass.  Here is what the correct pass looks like:

#7 – GLENN SEARS SCHOLARSHIP EVENT
The family of Glenn Sears and I are pleased to inform you that the New York City Department of Education has approved our request to establish a Scholarship Fund at the High School of Fashion Industries in memory of Glenn R. Sears, beloved member of our HSFI family who passed away this past summer.  The Glenn R. Sears Scholarship Fund is being established to remember and continue Glenn’s impact on his colleagues, students and the school by acknowledging the efforts of, and supporting each year, the continued learning of two deserving HSFI seniors – one of whom will be a Special Needs student –who will be pursuing either a college education or post-high school career training.  We would like to invite you to a special event to formally announce and celebrate the establishment of the Glenn R. Sears Scholarship Fund at the High School of Fashion Industries to be held at the school on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in Room 821.  If you are interested in making a tax deductible donation to the Glenn R. Sears Scholarship Fund, please make your check payable to The High School of Fashion Industries (HSFI) with the notation “Glenn R. Sears Scholarship Fund” on the memo line on your check.  Checks may be given directly to Ms. Ianniello in Room 819.  We would like to thank all of you for your condolences and expressions of sympathy and for your generous donations to this Scholarship Fund in Glenn’s memory.  Our lives are all enriched for having known Glenn!

#8 – UFT LOUNGE IN ROOM 234
The UFT lounge is located in Room 234 – the room is opened by the school’s master key.

#9 – EDUCATORS INVITED TO THE WHITNEY MUSEUM – INFO FROM MS. DAHILL
For the first time in the Whitney's history, we have a dedicated Education Center, with a seminar room, studio classroom, and adjacent theater. We want to be sure to welcome our New York City schools into our new spaces.  NYC public schools always have Guided Visits FREE of charge! We'd love for your schools to take advantage of these free programs and have even set aside "School Group VIP Hours" on Tuesdays, when we're closed to the general public. This way our students and teachers look at and discuss works of art in quiet galleries, and can have room to discover and explore.
Please help us spread the word about tours! You can find more information here: http://whitney.org/Visit/GroupTours
We also wanted to invite you to the Whitney's Fall Educator Preview on Friday, November 6 from 3:30-6! This is an awesome chance to come (for free!) to the Museum, to check out our fall shows, including the Whitney's collection, Archibald Motley: Jazz Age Modernist  and Frank Stella: A Retrospective. We are also going to have a giant marble run that takes up our whole theater that you can contribute to, along with tours, educator materials and snacks. The Museum is open late on Fridays, so you can also hang out afterwards.  Feel free to spread the word to other teachers you know. Please just ask them to register so we have accurate numbers.  For more information and to register, visit here: http://whitney.org/Events/EducatorPreviewFall2015
